Fluid and Electrolyte Replacement Therapy
Fluid and Electrolyte Replacement Therapy is used to maintain or replace body reserves of water, sugar (glucose), vitamins and minerals. Fluid and electrolyte replacement therapy is given into the bloodstream via an intravenous catheter.
Your body requires water and fluid to function properly. If you are unable take enough fluid by mouth, or are losing extra fluid through vomiting or diarrhea, you will feel better if you have it replaced. The length and frequency of your therapy depends on your condition and how your body responds to the therapy.
Your Nation’s Infusion at Home nurse and pharmacist will provide all instructions necessary regarding infusion techniques and procedures to maximize independence and minimize interference in your normal daily activities.
